ANNUAL SELF-EVALUATION AND GOAL PLANNING The Board of Educationwill conduct an Annual Board Self-Assessment and goal planning session. 

  1. Identify and adopt a Board Self-Assessment tool to meet the needs of the board before August of 2008.    
  2. The board will schedule an annual retreat to discuss the results of the assessment and define goals to guide the board throughout the year.   
  3. The board will define goals, monitor action, and review on a regular basis.

BOARD PROFESSIONAL GROWTH The Board of Education will collectively attend educational opportunities for board members. 

  1. Board members will collectively participate in education meetings and conferences at the state level.  (At least 2 functions per board member.)  
  2. The board will work towards the “Outstanding Board” award through the Nebraska Association of School Boards. 
  3. The board will study the role and authority of the board, as well as, the role and authority of the superintendent.  

IMPROVE PUBLIC PERCEPTION AND COMMUNICATION The Board of Education will communicate the district vision, goals, and long-range plans with students, staff, parents, and patrons. 

  1. The board will compose a letter/article for the newsletter and/or website on a quarterly basis.  This article will include activities of the Board of Education and timely information to address “hot topics.” 
  2. The board will study the benefits and value of a community forum to be conducted to provide timely and correct information to the public.  The Alert Now system will be utilized to keep community informed on “hot topics.”
  3. The board will attend on a monthly rotation a breakfast/lunch with the     superintendent/principals/directors to open lines of communication.

 MAPPING OF K-12 CURRICULUM – The Board of Education will provide support to the identification and mapping of K-12 education/curriculum. 

  1. The board will design a board/district calendar to provide appropriate time for staff development to provide the time and resources needed to support communication and mapping of the K-12 curriculum and instruction.
  2. The Board will provide the financial planning and funding to support the  resources needed to identify and align the K-12 curriculum and instruction.
  3. The Board will collaboratively support the identification and mapping of the K-12 curriculum and instruction through the involvement of board members  attending district curriculum meetings.
  4. The Board will provide support of the identification and mapping of K-12 curriculum and instruction through the Celebration of Excellence.
